Summary note
Published by the public relations division of the Israel Defense Forces, this text celebrating Israel's Independence Day follows the format of the Passover Haggadah using traditional religious tropes which were considered too controversial by many traditional religious authorities. Although secular in orientation, Kibbutz haggadot of the Zionist pioneers, produced in the 1930s and the early decades of the twentieth century, with their Passover themes of Exodus and return to the promised land of Israel, reflect the lives and ideals of Israel's builders. They also mirror the experiences of the specific kibbutzim that produced them
