The Vulgate and Zürich versions in parallel columns: a revised edition of R. Stephanus' Bible of 1545. "Stephanus' Bible ... had ben placed on the 'Index expurgatorius' ... The task of revision was committed to Francisco Sancho and the members of the Theological Faculty at Salamanca; and at length the work was published in 1586 ... by command of the Inquisition, in ignorance, apparently, of the true origin of the modern translation included ... [i.e. ] the Zurich version." (See: Historical catalogue of the printed editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society).
Principal contents: Volume 1: leaves [2]-[14], official approvals and privilege, preface, index of O.T. passages cited in the N.T., prefaces by Jerome; leaves 1-366: Genesis-Job.
