The groups and movements that make up Islamic civilisation are diverse and varied yet, while scholarship has analysed many branches of Islam in isolation, the exchanges and mutual influences between them has not been sufficiently recognised. This book traces the interactions between Ismaili intellectual thought and the philosophies of other Islamic groups to shed light on the complex and interwoven nature of Islamic civilisation.Based on a broad range of primary sources from the early medieval to the late nineteenth century, the book brings together different disciplines within Islamic Studies to cover polemical and doctrinal literature, law, mysticism, rituals and philosophy. The main Ismaili groups, such as the Fatimids, Nizaris and Tayyibis, are represented, as well as lesser known traditions such as that associated with the mountain region of Badakhshan in Central Asia. Religious syncretism, particularly in the Indian subcontinent and in Yemen, is considered alongside cultural interactions as reflected in the circulation of books in Fatimid markets, and various literary and mythical traditions, some still little explored. 650 0 Ismailites. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85068625 650 0 Islamic philosophy |xHistory. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008109227 650 7 Islamic philosophy. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01730358 650 7 Ismailites. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst00980134 650 7 11.83 movements within Islam. |0(NL-LeOCL)077594568 |2nbc 655 7 History. |2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01411628 700 1 Mir-Kasimov, Orkhan, |eeditor. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2013058581 830 0 Shi'i heritage series ; |v6. 902 yj |bs |6a |7m |dv |f1 |e20200205 904 pad |ba |hm |cb |e20200130 910 |cG0601mon 914 (OCoLC)on1120205912 |bOCoLC |cmatch |d20230125 |eprocessed |f1120205912 980 |i100.00 |j82.00 |n40029649278 982 |bFY20 |n2020 |q32101108232354 986 |hBP195.I8 |iI58 2020
