Summary note
The photographs in this collection reproduce European prints originally cataloged by Adam von Bartsch in Le peintre graveur (21 volumes, 1803-1821). Images of prints from vols. 1-10 and 12-21 of the catalog were issued from prints in the British Museum under a subscription project sponsored by the Warburg Institute, University of London, with further prints produced by Arthur Douglas from 1978.
A collection of 14,000 photographic reproductions of European prints from the 15th to the 19th century representing the work of 500 artists. The photographic project was supervised by the Warburg Institute, and includes additional prints from the collections of the British Museum that were not included in the published Illustrated Bartsch.
