Summary note

This book is the outcome of the activities of the Grupo de Investigacion Dinamicas Urbano-Regionales, of the Escuela de Planeacion Urbano-Regional of the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, campus Medellin, and wants to contribute to the debate and to the theoretical construction of paradigms and conditions typical of territorial planning. It is based on the study of three categories that are, at the same time, concepts and practices in planning. In the first place, it investigates sustainable development, in terms of its recognition as a model of order in the territory, that is, as a goal to be achieved through regulatory intervention in territorial phenomena. Secondly, the local notion of social urbanism as an emerging paradigm in intervention and planning, particularly in the Latin American city, is addressed. The text asks what is the scope of this concept and what practices are identified in the case of the city of Medellin, whose institutionality has spread the idea and put it into practice, precisely, on the implementation of the discourse. The third paradigm studied is that of concept and practice: the integral intervention through integral urban projects such as "Proyecto Urbano Integral -PUI-Nororiental (2004-2007)".
