Provenance
Kane MS. 24 was written in Italy, probably Venice. The writing was completed on 30 October 1471, according to the colophon on fol. 56r. The earliest attested owner was “Franciscus Mutius” [Muzi], possibly identifiable with a canon lawyer in Bergamo. Intermediate provenance is unknown. In 1929 the London and New York antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid M. Voynich (1865-1930) sold the manuscript to Grenville Kane (1854-1943), of Tuxedo Park, N.Y., whose bookplate is on the inside front cover. Princeton University Library acquired the manuscript from Kane's heirs in February 1946.
