Deed of amortissement concerning Michel, Abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Notre-Dame de Breteuil, Picardy, and Guillaume de Hollande, Bishop of Beauvais, dated 9 September 1452.
Script: Secretary script.
Decoration: with calligraphic treatment of ascenders of top line, an elaborate strapwork initial opening “A tous ceulx,” with a large initial A (70 x 85 mm) set in the left margin.

“A tous ceulx Qui ces presentes lettres verront ou ovront, Michel, par la permission diuine humble Abbe de leglise et monastere nostre dame de Brethueil de lordre Saint benoist ou diocese de beauuais et tout le comient de ce mesmes lieu salut en nostre seigneur. Sauoir faisons que A Reuerend pere en dieu Monseigneur Guillaume de hellande Euesque et Conte de beauuais ... Ce fut fait en nostre Chappitre le Neufieme Jour de Septembre lan de grace Mil quatrecens Cinquante et deux.”
Provenance
Garrett MS. 164 was given in the chapter of the Benedictine Abbey of Notre-Dame de Breteuil, on 9 September 1452. Intermediate ownership is unknown. The document was acquired by Robert Garrett (1875-1961), of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897, who presented it to the Princeton University Library in 1942.
