Under a deep blue sky, Caesar is leading a troop of nine men and two horses toward a welcoming party of five men outside city gates, which have 2 small escutcheons and 2 pennants depicting the imperial double eagle in gold (sable, a double eagle displayed or). The New York bookseller Ernest Dressel North described the manuscript using a description extracted from the Christie's catalogue of the Beaufoy library. On 12 December 1924, North sold the manuscript to Robert Garrett (1875-1961), Class of 1897, of Baltimore, Maryland, whose bookplate is on inside front cover.
