The first attested owner is William Cecil, Lord Burghley (1520-1598). The manuscript later was acquired by the London bookseller Ellis, which offered it in Catalogue 211 (1923), no. 12. E.H.W. Meyerstein (1887-1952), of Morent's Court, Kent, acquired the manuscript. On fol. i recto his monogram is surrounded by the date 1923 and accompanied with a note identifying the signature of William Cecil on fol. 40r. The manuscript was sold again by Sotheby, London, on 17 December 1952. Robert H. Taylor (1908-1985), of Princeton, New Jersey, Class of 1930, acquired the manuscript from the Seven Gables Bookshop, New York City, in December 1955. Taylor's bookplate is on the inside front cover.
