Notes

• Incipit: "... take hede of þre tymes oon to for lawe I write þe secounde vnder lawe I write and the þridde vnder grace and mercy ..."
• Explicit: "... þe tenthe yere of kyng Richard þe secounde after þe conquest of Engelond the yere of [oure] lordes age sire Thomas lord of [Berkeley] þat made me make þis translacioun [fyue] and thritty. Explicit."

• Title devised by cataloger.
• Devotional poem in three stanzas (fol. 212v).
• Collation: Parchment ; fol. iii (paper) + 121 + iii (paper) ; modern foliation in pencil.
• Layout: 47 lines per page in 2 columns.
• Description: Rubricated running titles for book number and summary.
• Decoration: Books open with a 5- to 6-line painted initial with full floriate borders of bar frames, colored vines, and spray-work, of burnished gold, green, blue, pink, and magenta. Chapters open with 3-line champide initial in gold, blue, rose andwhite with penwork sprays.
• Origin: Apparently written in London by Scribe Delta in the first quarter of the 15th century.

Later binding. England, early 19th century. Gold-tooled diced Russia leather over pasteboard. Gold-tooled turn-ins. Marbled paper pastedowns and flyleaves. Two green ribbon markers. Multi-colored endbands.

Early provenance unknown. By the 16th century owned by the Ingilby family of Ripley Castle, Yorkshire. Annotations by several members of that family. Sold by Sir William Henry Ingilby, 4th Baronet at Sotheby's London in 1920. Robert Garrett of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897, purchased the manuscript on 15 July 1925 from Bernard Quaritch. His gift to the Princeton University Library in 1942.
