It was owned in the 16th century by William Hart, son of Thomas Hart of Gloucester. The next attested owner of the manuscript was William Bromley (1664-1732), of Baginton, Warwickshire, whose armorial bookplate is on the front pastedown. The manuscripts were auctioned at a London sale beginning on 8 May 1903. The London antiquarian bookseller Bernard Quaritch purchased the manuscript at this sale and in September of that year sold it to Robert Garrett, Class of 1897, of Baltimore, Maryland. Garrett deposited the manuscript (deposit no. 969) in the Princeton University Library--his gift to the Library in 1942. 541 Gift; |cof Robert Garrett, Princeton Class of 1897, |d1942. 524 Garrett MS. 144, Manuscripts Division, Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, Princeton University Library. 510 4 Medieval & Renaissance manuscripts in the Princeton University Library, |cvolume 1, pages 334-336 650 0 Devotional literature, English (Middle) |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh89005456 650 0 Devotional literature, Latin (Medieval and modern) |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh96007069 630 00 Ten commandments |xCriticism, interpretation, etc. |xHistory |yMiddle Ages, 600-1500. 650 0 Spirituality |xCatholic Church |vEarly works to 1800. 650 0 Manuscripts, English (Middle) |zNew Jersey |zPrinceton. 655 7 Manuscripts |zEngland |y15th century. |2aat 700 1 Wycliffe, John, |d-1384, |eauthor. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79060439 700 1 Bromley, William, |d1663?-1732, |eformer owner. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84134415 700 1 Garrett, Robert, |d1875-1961, |edonor. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/nr93014294 710 2 Bernard Quaritch (Firm), |ebookseller. |0http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84093217 710 2 Princeton University. |bLibrary. |kManuscript. |nGarrett MS. 144. 773 0 |tRobert Garrett Collection. 856 40 |3Digitized microfilm copy |uhttps://arks.princeton.edu/ark:/88435/zc77sv21b 902 yw |bo |6t |7m |dv |f1 |e20190308
