Notes
  • Title in translation: Invisible ink folktale kamishibai.
  • Container doubles as a miniature stage. Includes colorful curtain card with characters from the stories.
  • The 5 illustrated stories in this miniature toy kamishibai stage were invisible when purchased so that children could make them appear through a process of spraying each card with juice or vinegar and then warming the cards over a fire source. The back of the container shows how the cards should be used. All of the images have already been made visible, although some are more faded than others. The only text is the story title on the wrapper. The "Peach Boy" (Momotaro) is missing its wrapper and one of the cards. Otherwise the sets are complete with titled wrappers and 6 cards per folktale, including "Little One Inch" (Issun bōshi), "The Burning Mountain" (Kachikachi yama), "The Old Man who made the cherry trees bloom" (Hanasaka jiji) and "The batte between monkey and crab" (Sarukani kassen).
  • On back of container: "TRADE MARK J.K MADE IN JAPAN".
