Item description: Performed in the drama Hana ayame iroha jikki at the Nakamuraza Theater in Edo. Hana ayame iroha jikki is a play based on the story of Chûshingura, or the Forty-seven Masterless Samurai.
Provenance: Purchased at one of three 1947 sales at Parke-Bernet or at Gimbels Department Store, New York City.
