Biographical/​Historical note

Greek photographers Konstantinos Rhomaides (d. 1900) and Aristotelis Rhomaides (d. 1916) were known variously as the Rhomaïdès frères, the Rhomaides Brothers, and the Rhomaidae, although they sometimes signed their work as individuals. They are known for their photographs of classical sites in Greece.

Summary note

Consists of a photograph album containing 25 collotypes by the Rhomaïdès frères (Rhomaides Brothers) depicting both classical and modern neoclassical architecture in Athens, including the Parthenon and other structures in the Acropolis of Athens, as well as various temples, theaters, monuments, museums, palaces, and public buildings. The album is labeled "Collections A. Rhomaides / Athènes Antique et Moderne" on the front cover and "Pinacothèque Hellénique" in the upper left corner. The first page is inscribed, "A Monsieur Gabriel Sarasin souvenir d 'amitié et de nos entretiens et agréables et interessants. Athènes le 17/29 Juin 1899 JA Valaority." Photographs are captioned in French.
