Summary note
Engineer Ayanna Howard was born on January 24, 1972. She earned her B.S. degree in engineering from Brown University in 1993. Upon graduation, she was hired by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a computer scientist. Howard continued her studies and received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from the University of Southern California in 1994 and 1999, respectively. Howard then attended Claremont Graduate University in 2005 where she earned her M.B.A degree. That same year, she was offered a position at the Georgia Institute of Technology where she founded the Human-Automation Systems (HumAnS) Lab, focused on how to enhance autonomy of robot functionality. In 2008, her SnoMote robots were internationally recognized for their ability to study climate change impact in such remote areas as the Antarctic ice shelves.
