Summary note

• A very descriptive report offering extensive observations of the geography of the west coast of Africa and near-by islands. Written by an experienced navigator as a navigation guide for others, it gives detailed descriptions of the African coast between Cape Spartel (near Tangiers) to Cape Bojador (Western Sahara) as well as Madeira and the Canary Islands. The report includes details about latitudes, longitudes, distances, routes, anchorages, hidden rocks, tides, currents and descriptions of visible ports and villages.
• The first part of the manuscript describes the Atlantic coast of Morocco and Western Sahara: Cape Spartel, Arzilla (Asilah), Larache, Mamora (Mehdya), Salé, Rabat, Mazagan (El Jadida), Cap Blanc (Ras Nouadhibou), Cap Cantin (Ras Cantin), Bay of Saffia (Safi), Mogador (Essaouira), Cape Geer (Cape Ghir), Port of Gueder, Port of Cansado, Punta Blanca, Rio das Enguias, and Cape Bojador. The second part describes Madeira, and of the Canary Islands: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Grande Canarie, Tenerife, La Palma, Hierro and Savage Islands (Selvagens), north of the Canaries. Of particular interest is a description of the ruins of Anafé (Anfa), present-day Casablanca, on page six.
