Summary note
Includes the night office lessons and responsories for the first Sunday in September (from the book of Job) on folios 230 and 232 and for the feast of St. John, Apostle and Evangelist (December 27) on folio 295. Lessons numbered through 12 in Roman numbers on folio 295 indicate a monastic cursus for the original compilation.
Notes
3 leaves from the same manuscript, with early foliation written in red on the upper right recto of each folio, to which a later hand added explanatory arabic numbers: "ccxxx" (230), "ccxxxii" (232), and "cclxxxv" (295).
Contains music in neumatic notation, written on four-line red staves. Liturgical markings and lesson numbers in red. Scriptural lessons begin with two-line, alternating red and blue flourished initials, with penwork decorative infilling; penwork extends into the inner margin. Capital letters stroked in red.
Origin: France (central or northern). Purchased from Schubertiade Music & Arts (Newton, Mass.).
Language note
Text in Latin.
