Summary note
Daughter of European immigrants who settled in Brazil after World War II, Miriam Mamber spent her childhood in a small town of Santa Catarina, collecting from nature and her parents' warehouse, ("We buy beeswax, lamb's wool, horse's hair"-- Page 241), the raw material of her first creations. Not by chance, her job was to seek inspiration in places less evident, creating transgressive parts loaded with symbolism. In the hands of Miriam, unusual elements like coffee beans, coins, fossils, leaves and parts of archaeological objects join the precious stones and metals to become unique jewels of high aesthetic and cultural value.
