  • Greek autograph manuscript by Nikolaos Docheiaritēs. Organized in the form of Byzantine music lessons. Contains music by Petros Bereketēs, Chourmouzios, Daniēl Prōtopsaltēs, Mpalasios hiereus, kyr Iōannēs [Prōtopsaltēs], Synesios monachos Ivēritēs, and Manouēl ho Chrysaphēs.
  • Priest-monk Nikephoros-Nikolaos Docheiaritēs was a major figure of Mount Athos monasticism, distinguished in the field of ecclesiastical music as a chanter, productive scribe of musical manuscripts and accomplished teacher of chanting art. He was one of the introducers of the so-called “New Method” of musical notation into Athos. More than 40 of his manuscripts have survived, almost all of them in Mount Athos.

  • Physical description: 16 double lines a page, 4to, 245 x 155 mm. Collation: [1]7 [2]-[7]8:55 ff. (last two leaves blank, lacks the first leaf of quire [1] and probably one quire before it; minor repairs on f. 1, marginal water-staining, somewhat browned, a few leaves soiled; modern pagination. It is written in Greek script and post-Byzantine neumes in blank ink with titles, initial letters and lettering in red ink.
