Summary note
This map illustrates the geology of Ross Island and the Dry Valleys region of southern Victoria Land, Antarctica which is crossed by a major rift basin, the uplifted shoulder that forms the Transantarctic Mountains escarpment. Large stratovolcanos associated with this rift are present on Ross Island and on the vicinity mainland. The Eocene to Holocene deposits of this area preserve a record of ice sheet and glacier fluctuations, from which the history of climate change can be inferred.
