Summary note
Consists of digitized versions of 975 pamphlets selected from the collections of the Library of Congress containing biographical information on a vast array of political leaders, historical figures, writers, and other cultural figures prominent in Latin America, Spain, and Portugal during the 19th and 20th centuries, and a smaller amount of material on pre-Hispanic leaders in America. Within this body of material is found information on pre-Hispanic leaders in America, e.g. Acamapichtii, Axatacati, Cuitiahuac, on colonial figures, e.g. Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Hernando Alvarado Tezozomoc, Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo y Valdes, and on nineteenth- and twentieth-century figures, e.g., presidents and writers throughout the Americas and Iberia; although pamphlets on major nineteenth century figures such as Simón Bolivar, José Artigas, Andrés Bello, Rubén Dario, José Marti, Francisco Miranda, José de San Martin, and Domingo Faustino Samiento appear.
