Summary note
Consists of selected correspondence and documents relating to Liverpool (England) merchants and their shippers and counterparts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) during the second half of the nineteenth century. Correspondence (1882-1885) between Alexander Gifford (Liverpool) and his brother Edward (Buenos Aires) forms the bulk of the material.
The collection consists of selected correspondence and documents relating to Liverpool (England) merchants and their shippers and counterparts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) during the second half of the nineteenth century. Correspondence (1882-1885) between Alexander Gifford (Liverpool) and his brother Edward (Buenos Aires) forms the bulk of the material. Additional documents include a printed table of exported goods from Brazil during the September-October 1879 period and statistics on sheep in wool-producing countries in 1869-1870. In addition, there is a draft of a meeting concerning gold-mining in Mariposa, noting trips to Buenos Aires "to see if I could form a company or syndicate for the proper working of these mines.".
