The Angel of Peace illustrates the letter "A," Britannia and Charity, "B" and "C", Florence Nightengale, "N," Queen Victoria, "Q," and a wounded Crimean veteran, "V."
Illustrations: Hand-colored engraved frontis. (depicting uniformed officials from around the world), t.p. vignette, and 26 hand-colored engravings (showing personifications, Victorian military figures, and weapons) illustrating the alphabet letters, accompanied with large hand-colored capital letters on the upper left, and letterpress couplets underneath, e.g.: "A is the Angel of Peace from above; / Away with Discord, and welcome sweet Love."
Cotsen copy: Lacks publisher's original yellow wrappers, printed in red and black, including imprint of printer William Stevens (cf. Darton).
