• The collection consists of 58 manuscript leaves, comprising 27 Spanish documents, relating to the buying and selling of slaves in the Kingdom of New Granada (now Colombia). The slaves are mentioned by name, with their ages and disclaimers as to their health--no heart condition, no leprosy, etc.--and the prices are given in Spanish coinage known as pieces of eight (ocho reales). Many of the slaves are children, and some families are mentioned. Many of the documents come from the town of Neyva, but others are from or mention Tocaima and Santa Fe de Bogata.
