Summary note
"One of the most important representatives of the Jewish minority in East Central Europe between the two world wars is the General Jewish Workers' Union, or "Bund" for short. Founded in Vilnius in 1897, it became the strongest political force in Poland's Jewish population on the eve of World War II. As a community of convictions and solidarity, the "Bund" made a very significant contribution to the flowering of Yiddish culture in Poland during the interwar period. For her fundamental work, Gertrud Pickhan was able to evaluate documents from recently accessible Eastern European archives."--English translation of description taken from publisher web site.
