"Les textes qui composent ce volume sont issus des communications qui se tinrent lors du colloque "L'OEuvre de Joseph Zobel : portées, héritages et modernité" à l'Université des Antilles, les 13, 14 et 15 octobre 2015, à l'occasion de la commémoration du centième anniversaire de la naissance de l'écrivain, le 26 avril 1915. Ces contributions apportent un éclairage sur l'ensemble littéraire et artistique de cet "auteur-carrefour" du XXème siècle afin d'aider à comprendre comment cette oeuvre polymorphe parvient à faire trace dans le temps. Romancier, poète, nouvelliste, sculpteur, Joseph Zobel a construit une oeuvre représentative des enjeux linguistiques, anthropologiques, ethnoculturels et littéraires qui s'imposèrent à l'homme de culture noire et aux intellectuels des Amériques après la Seconde guerre mondiale. Écriture populaire, esthétique enracinée au coeur des traditions populaires, le texte "zobellien" révèle les mutations sociales antillaises qui émergèrent au lendemain de la période esclavagiste."--Page 4 of cover.
