    Provenance
Princeton MS. 214 is a hybrid book of unknown early and intermediate provenance. It is comprised of a series of booklets containing prayers and other devotional texts. Peter Schmidt and Regina Cermann have localized the present manuscript to the Cologne area, ca. 1470, on the basis of the dialect and a comparison with a hybrid manuscript at Darmstadt (Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, ms. 1916). The Darmstadt manuscript, also illustrated with woodcuts from the Gulden Puchlein series, is from an Augustinian convent at Cologne. Most hybrid manuscripts are from southern Germany, often for use in Dominican convents. The antiquarian bookseller Sandra Hindman (Les Enluminures, Paris, Chicago) sold the manuscript to the Princeton University Library in 2010.
