    Provenance
Garrett Ms. 144 was written in the third quarter of the 15th century, but is otherwise of unknown origin. It was owned in the 16th century by William Hart, son of Thomas Hart of Gloucester. The next attested owner of the manuscript was William Bromley (1664-1732), of Baginton, Warwickshire, whose armorial bookplate is on the front pastedown. The manuscripts were auctioned at a London sale beginning on 8 May 1903. The London antiquarian bookseller Bernard Quaritch purchased the manuscript at this sale and in September of that year sold it to Robert Garrett, Class of 1897, of Baltimore, Maryland. Garrett deposited the manuscript (deposit no. 969) in the Princeton University Library--his gift to the Library in 1942.
