Summary note
"Giovan Battista Piranesi was the most famous engraver of all time, known for his Vedute di Roma. But it turned out that he was also one of the main art-dealers, restorers and restorers of sculptures, vases, candlesticks, stones and fragments that were dug or that he himself dug in the belly of Rome and then collected in his house-museum of Palazzo Tomati , before selling them to the nobles of the Grand Tour. Many lovers of Piranesi, observing his engravings, asked themselves: did he invent the antique pieces that appear in the prints or did they really exist? The Museo Piranesi, the result of research that has lasted for more than twenty years, answers this question by inventing the pieces passed from the artist's house-museum that still exist in various collections in the world." --Translated from back cover
