Notes
"Volumen CXXIII der Reihe Codices selecti."
Facsimile reproduction of a manuscript produced in Italy in the late 13th century. The manuscript is currently preserved at the Collection of Arms and Armor, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, under the number K 4984.
Title from colophon.
The original work, an Arabic treatise on falconry, is variously ascribed to Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥusayn, bāzyār or Muḥammad ibn ʻAbd Allāh ibn ʻUmar al-Bayzār and probably inspired by two hunting treatises from the eighth and ninth centuries.
Issued in a standard edition (381 copies numbered in Arabic numerals), and a luxury edition (99 copies numbered in Arabic numerals), in which the manuscript's 101 historiated initials are reproduced using 23 carat gold and partly chiselled. An additional 20 copies, unnumbered, are reserved for archival purposes.
The facsimile was issued in a patterned green velvet cover that imitates the mid-15th-century cover of the original manuscript, but without the metal clasps. Issued in a slipcase.
Princeton copy 1: Number 34 of the standard edition.
