Summary note
"Peter Meinke may be best known as Poet Laureate of Florida, but he is also a modern master of the short story, where his fine ear for language, his love of narrative, his wise sense of humor, his keen, affectionate observation of character find moving and memorable expression. His stories first earned acclaim thirty years ago when his debut collection, The Piano Tuner, won the Flannery O'Connor Award. Since that time his stories have been chosen for Best American Short Stories and the O. Henry Awards and have become required reading in many high school and college English classes. This new collection of twenty-six stories includes eighteen previously published, hard-to-find gems and eight new tales. Artist Jeanne Clark Meinke illuminated the pages with her new and selected drawings to form a book sure to become a favorite"-- Page 2 of cover.
