Summary note
This omocha-e print is of a magic-lantern show with the latest slides, including a Shinto offering and priest (kannushi), actors, pine branches, flowers, monsters, samurai and ghosts. There is an establishing shot of a Shinto shrine at the top. The stage depicted at the bottom has two round openings where the pictures could be placed to recreate the experience of entering a magic-lantern theater. The figure of Fukusuke sits in the center of the stage, bowing to the audience, and above his head is a sign, saying "New cast of favorites" (shinrenchū hiiki). Fukusuke dolls were placed at the entry of businesses to bring luck by attracting patrons.
