Catalogue publié à l'occasion de l'exposition éponyme présentée au Centre Pompidou, Paris, du 29 septembre 2016 au 27 mars 2017.00La réception de l'oeuvre de Brancusi (1876-1957) dans la culture roumaine a suivi une trajectoire plutôt sinueuse : En effet Brancusi est devenu un personnage inventé et réinventé plusieurs fois dans son pays d'origine. Après le régime stalinien, le régime Ceausescu commence à développer une idéologie propre, en fabriquant une nouvelle histoire nationale, pour laquelle le besoin de nouveaux mythes s'imposait. C'est dans ce contexte que l'oeuvre de Brancusi a commencé à être relue et transformée comme symbole de la culture nationale. Dans cette opération c'était bien évidemment son potentiel emblématique qui comptait plus que l'oeuvre de l'artiste.
