Summary note
This book fills a research gap: it deals with the baroqueization of medieval churches, which has so far hardly been studied. On the basis of 26 Catholic female penitentiary and Frauenklosterkirchen in Westphalia, the baroque formations are now reconstructed and evaluated in their individual phases. For almost all of these churches, baroqueization processes can be demonstrated, by means of which historical and historical churches have been successively altered aesthetically and sacrifically in the 17th and 18th centuries. The study shows guidelines for baroqueisation and gives an insight into the motivation as well as the networking of artists and clients. Concentrating on churches of female communities also makes it possible to ask for central women-specific themes such as the treatment of women's senses - a research subject which currently focuses on art historians, historians such as liturgical scientists.
